The Buddhist temple of Wat Plai Laem can be found on the island of Koh Samui in the country of Thailand. The temple is on the northeastern coast, and since it is still used for worship, people can be seen arriving to pay homage to Guanyin and Buddha every single day.
Guanyin is the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, and there is a white eighteen arm statue of her in the middle of the grounds of the temple. There are two halls that begin where Guanyin is located, and they are full of colorful and unique frescoes and murals that all share mythological stories from Buddhism.
In addition to the numerous Chinese-Thai beliefs that can be learned during a visit, guests will also see some amazing Buddhist themed art and fabulous architecture. However, the most interesting feature, besides Guanyin, is the massive white Buddha statue that looks like it is laughing.
There are plenty of other statues at Wat Plai Laem, and most of them are quite different than the statues that have been placed at other temples throughout the country.
This temple is quite new, but the techniques that were used during the construction and design process have been around for centuries and were based on ancient beliefs. A lake surrounds Wat Plai Laem, and any visitor that gives a donation to the temple will be given a bag of food to feed to the fish that live within the water.
It is easy to get to this phenomenal temple, as it is between Big Buddha Beach and Choeng Mon Beach. That means that no one will need to miss this must-see attraction during their visit.
Everyone will love seeing this temple, but there are a few things that visitors will want to be aware of before they arrive. First, those who want to wander around the temple and the grounds must be dressed appropriately. That means that their head and shoulders must be covered. It is also recommended that everyone wears white when they are here.
No shoes are allowed inside the temple, as a sign of respect. However, everyone should be aware of that, because it is normal in Thailand for a person to remove their shoes prior to entering, temples, homes and sometimes even businesses.
It will take approximately an hour to see everything inside this temple, and visitors can use cameras and video cameras while they are there.
Wat Plai Laem is one of the many temples that can be found in Thailand, but it is one of the more interesting ones due to its unique massive features. Therefore, it should be at the top of any visitor’s itinerary.
